[Introduction]
To ensure the best experience and security for our users, Microsoft Teams will no longer release any updates or bug fixes to Teams on devices running Android 8 beginning December 2025. This change allows us to focus development efforts on newer Android versions that offer improved performance, security, and capabilities.
[When this will happen:]
This change will begin rolling out in late November 2025 and is expected to be completed by late December 2025.
[How this affects your organization:]
- Who is affected: Users in your organization who access Microsoft Teams on devices running Android 8.
- What will happen:
- Users on Android 8 will no longer receive latest updates or changes to Microsoft Teams mobile app after December 2025.
- Teams will continue to be supported on Android 8 so that users can sign-in and use the app.
- There is no impact to Teams on desktop, web, or other mobile platforms.
[What you can do to prepare:]
- Identify users in your organization who are using Android 8 devices. You can use the Microsoft Teams Admin Center or Microsoft Endpoint Manager to generate device reports.
- Communicate this change to affected users and helpdesk staff.
- Update internal documentation and support materials to reflect this change.
- Encourage users to upgrade their Android OS or switch to a supported device.
