Assessment Reasoning
New option for Outlook mobile to enforce Purview DLP wait-on-send requires admin review and potential policy updates. Admins may need to configure wait times in DLP policies and communicate expected behaviour. Users will see delays if this is enabled, but the experience is predictable and configurable. Urgency is moderate as rollout starts this month and involves compliance and policy enforcement decisions.

[Outlook Mobile] Purview DLP Wait-on-Send Support
Message ID: MC1472021

[What and why:]

Outlook for iOS and Android will support Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention \(DLP\) wait\-on\-send policies. Organizations can require a DLP evaluation before an email is sent and configure how long users must wait for policy evaluation to complete. This helps ensure sensitive information is inspected against organizational policies before messages leave the organization while providing administrators with flexible control over the user experience.

[Rollout schedule:]

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, DoD): We will begin rolling out on late September 2026 and expect to complete by late September 2026.

[Impact on your organization:]

This feature helps organizations reduce the risk of sensitive information being sent before Microsoft Purview DLP policies can be evaluated. Administrators can require users to wait for policy inspection and configure the maximum wait time based on organizational requirements. This improves policy enforcement and compliance while allowing organizations to balance security, performance, and user productivity.

[Action required / Recommendations:]

Administrators can review their existing Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention policies and determine whether wait-on-send enforcement is appropriate for their organization. To take advantage of this feature, administrators may enable and configure the desired wait period within supported DLP policies. No changes are required for organizations that do not plan to use wait-on-send enforcement.
