Assessment Reasoning
The feature introduces integration between Power BI reports and Copilot Notebooks, but no admin configuration or enablement steps are required beyond existing licensing and service availability. Admin impact is low as this is an optional enhancement for users who already have both services. User impact is moderate because it changes Copilot workflows for users who actively use notebooks and Power BI, enabling richer data context. Urgency is low as rollout builds over the next two months and requires no action from admins.

📢 Official Microsoft Message Center Announcement

Microsoft Copilot (Microsoft 365): Power BI reports as references in Copilot Notebooks
Message ID: MC1474458

[What and why:]

Copilot Notebooks now lets users add Power BI reports as references, bringing report data directly into their notebooks alongside files. Copilot uses this information to help generate more relevant summaries, presentations, and briefs grounded in the organization’s data.

[Rollout schedule:]

  • Public Preview (Worldwide): We will began rolling out late September 2026 and expect to complete by mid-October 2026.
  • General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out late October 2026 and expect to complete by mid-November 2026.

[Impact on your organization:]

Customers who use Power BI can bring their reports into Copilot Notebooks as a knowledge source, so Copilot’s outputs reflect real business data, not just documents. Organizations that don’t use Power BI won’t see any change.

[Action required / Recommendations:]

No additional setup is required beyond having Power BI and Copilot already available to users. If your organization already uses Power BI and has Copilot enabled, this capability will become available automatically.
