Assessment Reasoning
This is a new PowerPoint feature providing publish and unpublish controls for Official Brand Kits, rolling out in mid-October 2026. Admin teams and Brand Managers may need to update internal governance and communication processes but no technical action is required. The change affects Brand Manager workflows more than end users, who mainly lose access to unpublished kits. Urgency is moderate as the feature is already deploying but involves no compliance or configuration risk.

📢 Official Microsoft Message Center Announcement

Microsoft PowerPoint: Publish and unpublish controls for official brand kits
Message ID: MC1509803

[What and why]

We’re introducing publish and unpublish controls for Official Brand Kits in Microsoft PowerPoint. This update gives Brand Managers greater control over the lifecycle and availability of brand assets within their organization.

With these new controls, Brand Managers can temporarily remove a Brand Kit from end user access without deleting it or changing editor permissions. When the Brand Kit is ready to be used again, it can be republished. This flexibility helps organizations manage brand content more effectively and ensure only current, approved brand assets are available to users.

[Rollout schedule]

  • General Availability (Worldwide): Beginning in mid-October 2026 and expected to complete in mid-October 2026

[Impact on your organization]

Who is affected

  • Organizations using Official Brand Kits in Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Users assigned as Brand Managers
  • Users who access and use published Official Brand Kits

Platforms and services

  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Official Brand Kits

What will happen

  • Brand Managers will be able to publish and unpublish Official Brand Kits.
  • When a Brand Kit is unpublished, users will no longer be able to discover or use the Brand Kit.
  • Unpublishing a Brand Kit does not delete the Brand Kit.
  • Existing editor permissions and management access remain unchanged when a Brand Kit is unpublished.
  • Brand Managers can republish a previously unpublished Brand Kit when it is ready to be made available again.

[Action required and recommendations]

No action is required.

We recommend that you:

  • Inform Brand Managers about the new publish and unpublish controls.
  • Review your organization’s processes for determining when Official Brand Kits should be available to users.
  • Update internal documentation or governance guidance for brand asset management, if applicable.

[Compliance considerations]

No compliance considerations identified. Review as appropriate for your organization.
