Assessment Reasoning
The change retires a specific user option in Teams meetings involving Cloud IntelliFrame, aligning the meeting view across participants. Admins mainly need to update guidance and notify users; no configuration or policy updates are required. The effect on users is moderate as it removes a familiar control, but basic meeting functionality is unaffected. Urgency is limited since rollout starts in late 2026, allowing time for awareness actions.

Microsoft Teams: Retirement of the Turn off IntelliFrame option for online participants
Message ID: MC1521614

[What and why]

We are retiring the ability for online participants to turn off IntelliFrame for their own view in meetings with a Microsoft Teams Room that has Cloud IntelliFrame enabled. This change provides all online participants with the same view of the room, as configured on the Teams Rooms device.

Currently, online participants using Microsoft Teams desktop on Windows and Mac can right-click the video tile of a Teams Room using Cloud IntelliFrame and select Turn off IntelliFrame. This switches to the standard room view only on their own Teams client.

[Rollout schedule]

  • General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout will begin in late November 2026 and is expected to complete by early January 2027.
  • General Availability (GCC, GCC High): Rollout will begin in mid-December 2026 and is expected to complete by late January 2027.

[Impact on your organization]

Who is affected

  • Online participants using Microsoft Teams desktop on Windows and Mac who join meetings with a Microsoft Teams Room using Cloud IntelliFrame.

Platforms and services

  • Microsoft Teams for Windows
  • Microsoft Teams for Mac
  • Microsoft Teams Rooms using Cloud IntelliFrame

What will happen

  • The Turn off IntelliFrame option will be removed for online participants.
  • If Cloud IntelliFrame is enabled for the room, online participants will see the IntelliFrame view sent by the Teams Room. If Cloud IntelliFrame is not enabled for the room, online participants will see the standard room view.
  • This change does not affect how Cloud IntelliFrame is enabled or configured on Teams Rooms devices or any admin policies.
  • In-room participants can continue to turn off IntelliFrame from the room console settings.

[Action required and recommendations]

No admin action is required. We recommend that you notify users who join meetings with IntelliFrame-enabled rooms about this change and update internal documentation that references the Turn off IntelliFrame option.
