Audit Log Update: Transitioning to Unified Fabric Platform Logging [MC1077859]

Audit Log Update: Transitioning to Unified Fabric Platform Logging [MC1077859]

Message ID: MC1077859

We are making a change to align with the unified audit model in Microsoft Fabric. As part of this effort, we will deprecate the previously duplicated Audit Event entries emitted by Datamarts, which are already captured by the Fabric Platform. This update ensures that all standard Create/Update/Delete/Read Artifact actions are consistently captured through the Fabric Platform, eliminating redundancy and improving audit clarity.

[When this will happen:]

We will be retiring this legacy audit event behavior from Datamarts starting June 22, 2025, and completing the retirement by July 7, 2025. Instead, we recommend relying solely on the Fabric Platform audit logs, where we will continue to invest our development resources and enhancements.

[How this will affect your organization:]

You are receiving this message because our reporting indicates your organization may be using the deprecated Datamarts-based audit entries.

After this change is implemented, admins and users will no longer see separate audit entries from Datamarts for standard artifact operations. All auditing for these actions will be unified under the Fabric Platform’s audit model.

If applicable:

We will gradually roll out this change to Targeted Release customers in early June 22, 2025, and expect to complete by early July 2025.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

This change will happen automatically by the specified date. No admin action is required.

Please notify your users about this update, review internal documentation, and ensure that any reporting or compliance processes are updated to use the Fabric Platform audit logs.

The recent update regarding the transition to a unified audit log model in Microsoft Fabric is set to create a notable shift for both admins and users. By streamlining the auditing process and eliminating the redundancy of Datamarts-based audit entries, this change aims to enhance clarity and efficiency.

For admins, the impact will be largely positive. With the retirement of duplicated entries, they will have a cleaner and more cohesive log to work with, allowing for easier monitoring and compliance checks. This means less time sifting through unnecessary data and more time can be dedicated to strategic initiatives. Plus, who doesn’t enjoy a little tidiness in their audit logs? It’s like spring cleaning—refreshing and invigorating!

Users, on the other hand, can expect a smoother experience as well. With all standard operations being captured under the Fabric Platform’s audit model, there will be less confusion about where to find specific actions. It’s a win-win situation where clarity reigns supreme. Just think of it as a well-organized filing cabinet—everything you need is right where you expect it to be.

As for the overall impact of these changes, it’s significant. The move not only reduces redundancy but also signals Microsoft’s commitment to continuous improvement and user experience. By concentrating development resources on the Fabric Platform, we can anticipate enhanced features and functionalities in the future.
