Introduction
To support backend service improvements and enhance email deliverability, Microsoft Teams is updating the default sender address used for guest access invitations to Teams channels. This change helps ensure consistent delivery and recognition of invitation emails.
When this will happen
- General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out mid-September 2025 and expect to complete by early October 2025.
- General Availability (GCC): We will begin rolling out early October 2025 and expect to complete by mid-October 2025.
- General Availability (GCC High and DoD): We will begin rolling out mid-October 2025 and expect to complete by late October 2025.
How this affects your organization
- The sender address for Teams guest invitations will change from [email protected] to [email protected].
- This change is applied automatically and is enabled by default.
- End users cannot disable or revert this change.
- After rollout, the previous sender address will no longer be used.
- No impact to invitation functionality or guest access behavior is expected.
What you can do to prepare
- Review any email filtering, allow lists, or security policies that rely on sender addresses to ensure [email protected] is permitted.
- Communicate this change to help desk teams to reduce potential confusion or support calls.
- No additional configuration is required.
Compliance considerations
| Compliance Area | Impact Description |
|---|---|
| New communication method | Updates the sender domain used for guest invitations, which may affect email filtering or recognition. |
| Admin control | Admins can manage allow lists or email filtering policies to accommodate the new sender address. |
