📢 Official Microsoft Message Center Announcement

Microsoft 365 Apps: Cloud Update – Extended rollback support for Monthly Enterprise Channel
Message ID: MC1478946

[What and Why:]

Cloud Update is expanding rollback options for devices on Monthly Enterprise Channel. Administrators will be able to roll back devices to a release from two versions prior, with the latest available security updates for that release, and keep devices in the rolled-back state across subsequent releases until they are ready to resume updates. This provides additional time to investigate and resolve compatibility issues while maintaining security coverage and centralized control through the Microsoft 365 Apps admin center.

[Rollout Schedule:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out in September 2026 and expect to complete by late September 2026.

[Impact on Your Organization:]

This feature gives administrators an additional recovery option for Monthly Enterprise Channel devices managed by Cloud Update. If an update causes a compatibility or operational issue, administrators can roll back affected devices to a release from two versions prior, with the latest available security updates for that release. Devices can remain on the selected version across subsequent releases until the administrator chooses to resume updates. Existing update profiles and devices will not be changed or rolled back automatically.

[Action Required/Recommendations:]

No action is required before rollout. The additional rollback option will become available automatically in the Microsoft 365 Apps admin center. Administrators should review their rollback and recovery procedures, identify who is authorized to initiate a rollback, and update internal support documentation as needed. Before using the feature, assess the affected devices or groups and establish a plan to resume updates after the underlying issue is resolved.

[Compliance considerations:]

Does the change include an admin control and, can it be controlled through Entra ID group membership?Yes. The feature includes or affects admin controls, policies, permissions, roles, authentication, or management settings as described in this message. Review the linked documentation or admin center controls for group-based configuration support.
