Assessment Reasoning
The announcement confirms an updated rollout timeline with active deployment across Insider and Preview channels and planned completion by end of October 2026. Admin impact is moderate as no configuration or policy work is required but awareness and training updates may be needed for presentation teams. User impact is noticeable due to new Copilot-driven capabilities and PowerPoint Live interactivity. Urgency and implementation effort are moderate because the rollout is underway but not complete, and organisations should prepare support and training materials.

📢 Official Microsoft Message Center Announcement

(Updated) Create interactive slides in PowerPoint with Copilot skill (Windows and Mac)
Message ID: MC1461152 (Updated)

Updated October 7, 2026: We have updated the content and timeline. Thank you for your patience.

[What and why:]

We’re introducing the Copilot skill “Create interactive slide” in PowerPoint for Windows, Mac and web. This capability helps users create interactive, full-slide visuals that explain complex concepts, timelines, comparisons, systems, and data.

  • Users can start creating interactive slides from the PowerPoint ribbon, on the Home and Insert tabs with the “Interactive Slide” button, and in Copilot chat in PowerPoint with the “Create Interactive Slide” skill.
  • Attendees will be able to interact with slides created by the skill when viewing the slide in PowerPoint Live for Microsoft Teams.

By making sophisticated visual communication easier to create directly in PowerPoint, this experience can help users communicate ideas more clearly and create engaging presentations with less manual effort.

PowerPoint Live in Microsoft Teams: Each meeting participant can interact independently with slides created using the Create Interactive Slide skill. Interactions are not shared; attendees will see their own interactions, but not the presenter’s or other attendees’ interactions. Support for synchronizing presenter interactions across the meeting is planned as a future improvement.

[Rollout schedule:]

Frontier and Microsoft 365 Insider Beta channel

  • Skill now available in PowerPoint for Windows, Mac and web.
  • Ribbon Button in PowerPoint for Windows and Mac: By late September 2026
  • Skill and Ribbon Button in PowerPoint for the web: By early October 2026

Current channel (Preview)

  • Skill and Ribbon Button in PowerPoint for Windows and Mac: By early October 2026

Worldwide

  • Skill and ribbon button in PowerPoint for Windows, Mac and web: rollout will start in mid-October 2026 and is expected to complete by end of October 2026.
  • Attendee interaction now available in PowerPoint Live in Microsoft Teams.

[Impact on your organization:]

Who is affected:

  • PowerPoint for Windows, Mac and web users who have access to this capability.

Platforms:

  • PowerPoint for Windows, Mac and web.
  • Interactive slides are interactive in PowerPoint for iPad and will appear as non-interactive images in PowerPoint for iPhone and Android.

After the feature becomes available, eligible users will be able to use the Create interactive slide skill to produce or update full-slide visual experiences for scenarios such as:

  • Explaining complex concepts.
  • Presenting timelines.
  • Comparing options or information.
  • Illustrating systems and relationships.
  • Communicating data visually.

Organizations participating in the Microsoft Copilot Frontier program can evaluate the preview experience before general availability. Frontier capabilities are pre-release experiences and may change before reaching general availability.

[Action required / recommendations:]

No action is required before rollout. There are no admin settings for this capability.

A Copilot license is required.

We recommend that administrators:

  • Review this information with presentation support, adoption, training, and help desk teams.
  • Consider identifying Frontier participants who can evaluate the capability and provide feedback before general availability.
  • Update internal PowerPoint guidance or training materials if your organization maintains standardized presentation-creation processes.
  • Review the Microsoft Copilot Frontier program documentation: Get started with the Microsoft Copilot Frontier Program.
