Assessment Reasoning
The update revises rollout timing for the third-party synthetic audio and video detection capability in Teams. Admins must evaluate certified providers, manage deployment, set permissions and update meeting policies, which indicates a moderate-to-high configuration workload. User impact is indirect but notable, as detection results may affect how meeting participants see or respond to flagged content. Timeline change reduces immediate urgency, but preparation for provider selection and compliance checks should begin soon.

📢 Official Microsoft Message Center Announcement

(Updated) Microsoft Teams: Third-party synthetic audio and video detection in meetings
Message ID: MC1509787 (Updated)

Updated October 22, 2026: We have updated the timeline. Thank you for your patience.

[What and Why:]

Organizations can enhance meeting security with synthetic audio and video detection solutions provided by certified third-party providers. Third-party detection solutions analyze meeting media for signs of synthetic or manipulated audio and video and send detection signals to Teams, enabling integrated in-meeting experiences and controls.

Important: Synthetic media detection is performed by the third-party provider. Microsoft Teams provides the platform integration and experiences for surfacing and acting on detection signals from supported providers.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 573451.

[Rollout Schedule:]

Targeted Release (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out in mid-November 2026 and expect to complete by late November 2026.

General Availability (Worldwide): We will communicate via Message center when we are ready to proceed.

[Impact on Your Organization:]

Organizations can choose and integrate certified third-party deepfake detection solutions into Microsoft Teams meetings, helping protect users from emerging AI-generated voice and video threats. This gives customers more flexibility to meet security and compliance needs while enabling users to make more informed trust decisions during meetings.

[Action Required/Recommendations:]

To use third-party Synthetic Audio and Video Detection in Microsoft Teams, administrators should evaluate and select a supported detection provider, deploy the provider app through Manage apps in the Teams admin center, grant required permissions, and configure applicable Teams meeting policies.

[Compliance considerations:]
