Microsoft Graph APIs for Copilot cost management
Message ID: MC1521616

[What and Why:]

Microsoft is introducing Microsoft Graph APIs for Copilot cost management, giving organizations a programmatic way to manage Copilot credit spending policies, monitor credit balances, and handle end-user requests for additional credits.

Administrators and developers can use the APIs to retrieve tenant, user, and per-service credit balances; create, update, and delete spending policies; assign security groups to policies; configure service-specific settings; and set up email threshold alerts. They can also retrieve, approve, or reject credit requests.

These APIs integrate Copilot cost management with existing administration and FinOps processes. This initial release, available through the Microsoft Graph beta surface, focuses on spending-policy administration and balance information; detailed consumption reporting is not included.

[Rollout Schedule:]

Public Preview (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out to the beta endpoint in mid-October 2026.

[Impact on Your Organization:]

Who is affected:

  • Administrators and developers who manage Copilot credit spending policies via Microsoft Graph.

What will happen:

  • Organizations gain a new programmatic way to integrate Copilot credit cost management with existing administration and FinOps processes.
  • There is no change to the end-user experience, and no action is required for organizations that do not plan to use these APIs.
  • Detailed consumption reporting is not included in this release.

[Action Required/Recommendations:]

No action is required if your organization does not plan to use these APIs. If you do plan to use them, we recommend you:

  • Review the Microsoft Graph documentation for available beta endpoints and current limitations.
  • Determine the Microsoft Graph permissions and authentication requirements for the operations you plan to automate.
  • Identify which existing administration or FinOps processes you want to integrate with Copilot cost management.
  • Determine which security groups should be assigned to Copilot spending policies, where applicable.
  • Review requirements for configuring credit threshold email alerts and alert recipients.

A General Availability date is not currently available.
