New Outlook for Windows: Multi-account support for add-Ins and apps [MC911623]

Message ID: MC911623

Coming soon to new Outlook for Windows: Apps and add-ins will be supported for all accounts added to new Outlook, and the user’s view of these apps and add-ins will dynamically change to the active identity.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 412936.

[When this will happen:]

Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out late October 2024 and expect to complete by late October 2024.

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out late November 2024 and expect to complete by mid-December 2024.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Before this rollout, new Outlook for Windows supports apps and add-ins for the user’s primary account only. Users currently see no add-ins for secondary accounts.

After this rollout, available add-ins and modules in Outlook will dynamically change to reflect what is available in the context of a selected message or user account.

Admins will no longer need to ensure an account is marked primary for add-ins to function. Users will not lose any functionality with this change, but additional add ins available to the account may appear in non-primary account contexts.

This feature is on by default.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required before the rollout. Review your current configuration to determine the impact for your organization. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.

Hold onto your hats, folks! The new Outlook for Windows is about to get a whole lot more exciting with the upcoming multi-account support for add-ins and apps. Yes, you heard it right! No more juggling between accounts and wondering why your favorite add-in is playing hide and seek. This update is set to roll out in late October 2024 for targeted release and will be generally available worldwide by mid-December 2024.

So, what does this mean for you, our dear admins and users? Well, let’s break it down in a way that even your grandma would understand (assuming she’s tech-savvy and loves a good laugh).

For the admins out there, this update is like a breath of fresh air. Previously, you had to ensure that an account was marked as primary for add-ins to function. It was like trying to make sure the star player always had the ball. But now, with this update, the ball is in everyone’s court! Add-ins and modules will dynamically change to reflect what’s available in the context of a selected message or user account. It’s like having a chameleon that adapts to whatever account you’re using. No more primary account headaches – just smooth sailing from here on out.

Users, rejoice! You won’t lose any functionality with this change. In fact, you might even discover some hidden gems in your non-primary accounts. Imagine opening your secondary account and finding all your favorite add-ins ready to go. It’s like finding a secret stash of candy you forgot about. Sweet, right?

This feature is on by default, so you don’t need to lift a finger. However, it might be a good idea to review your current configuration to see how this will impact your organization. And hey, why not give your users a heads-up about this change? A little communication goes a long way, and it’s always nice to be in the loop.

So, what do you think about this update? Are you excited about the new multi-account support for add-ins and apps in Outlook for Windows? Share your thoughts and let’s get the conversation rolling. We’d love to hear from you!
