Message ID: MC942832

The Microsoft 365 Copilot usage report in the Microsoft 365 admin center will be updated to show total usage of Business Chat and split usage of Business Chat (work) and Business Chat (web). Business Chat (web) usage is currently limited to Microsoft Edge and Microsoft 365 App, but more apps will be added over time. The Business Chat (work) usage in Edge and Microsoft 365 App was already captured in the report as part of the Business Chat (work) metric, but now we are breaking them out in the adoption by app chart. In the user level table, the last activity dates are added for Business Chat (web), Edge, and Microsoft 365 App.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 415468.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out early December 2024 and expect to complete by late December 2024.

[How this will affect your organization:]

This new usage report is designed help admins understand the overall usage of Business Chat, the split usage between Business Chat (web) and Business Chat (work), and the Business Chat usage in apps Edge and Microsoft 365 App.

This update is available by default.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

Due to the new release, Business Chat (work) usage in aggregated tenant exports will be moved to a new file. You may need to update the source exported file for it.

The recent update to the Microsoft 365 admin center regarding the Business Chat usage report is certainly a noteworthy development for both admins and users alike. With this enhancement, administrators will gain a clearer insight into how Business Chat is being utilized within their organization. The breakdown between Business Chat (work) and Business Chat (web) will allow for more targeted strategies to improve user engagement and productivity.

For admins, this means better analytics at their fingertips, making it easier to identify trends and areas where additional training or resources may be needed. As we know, knowledge is power, and the more information available, the more informed decisions can be made. Plus, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good chart? It’s like a treasure map, leading to the hidden gems of productivity!

On the flip side, users will benefit from the clarity this update brings as well. With the new emphasis on usage metrics, there’s a greater opportunity for users to understand how their work habits align with organizational goals. And let’s face it, it’s always nice to see your contributions recognized and tracked, even if it’s just in a report!

The overall impact of these changes is likely to be significant. By providing a more nuanced view of Business Chat usage, organizations can foster a culture of communication and collaboration that is both efficient and engaging. Expect to see a rise in user participation as people become more aware of the tools at their disposal.
