Microsoft 365 file sensitivity labels in Copilot responses availability update [MC954841]

Message ID: MC954841

Copilot will show current sensitivity label settings to users for any Microsoft 365 file used to ground a prompt in Microsoft 365 Copilot Business Chat web mode and Microsoft Copilot with enterprise data protection web grounding chat. These are the same sensitivity settings displayed across Microsoft 365 products like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook, etc.

Copilot will display sensitivity label shields at the bottom of Copilot responses with the file referenced file. This will help users identify the level of sensitivity classification for the content included in the response from the file.

The recent update regarding Microsoft 365 file sensitivity labels in Copilot responses is set to bring significant benefits to both admins and users. This change, effective from early January 2025, will enhance how we interact with sensitive information in our daily workflows.

For users, the introduction of sensitivity label shields at the bottom of Copilot responses will serve as a handy visual cue. Imagine being able to instantly know the sensitivity level of the content you’re working with—no more second-guessing! This clarity will empower users to handle documents more responsibly, ensuring that sensitive information is treated with the caution it deserves. It’s like having a friendly traffic light guiding you through the data highway!

Admins, on the other hand, will appreciate the consistency this update brings across various Microsoft 365 products. By standardizing sensitivity label visibility in tools like Word, Excel, and Outlook, it simplifies training and compliance efforts. Plus, the need for no additional action means that admins can focus on more pressing matters—like ensuring the coffee machine is always stocked!

Overall, the impact of these changes could be quite profound. Not only will it foster a culture of awareness around data sensitivity, but it will also streamline communication and collaboration within teams. The ease of use and enhanced security measures will likely lead to a more efficient and compliant work environment.
