[When this will happen:]
General Availability: Starting today, January 15, 2025, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is rolling out to customers.
[How this will affect your organization:]
Copilot Chat offers:
- Secure, enterprise-ready AI chat powered by GPT-4o
- Pay-as-you-go agents grounded in shared tenant data, accessible right in chat
- IT controls for data governance and management of agents, including enterprise data protection.
Agents that access your organization’s shared tenant data are off by default. Admins need to set up or use an existing Copilot Studio subscription to enable these agents. Once enabled, they will be billed based on metered consumption. Agents grounded in instructions, public websites, and uploaded files are available to use at no additional cost and will be default on. Agent availability will be based on your existing store settings for Teams and Microsoft 365 apps.
[What you need to do to prepare:]
Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat can be pinned within the new Microsoft 365 Copilot app (formerly the Microsoft 365 app), Microsoft Teams, and Outlook. Copilot Chat is also accessible on the web at m365copilot.com.
To help your organization get the most out of the new Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, we have updated the Copilot Success Kit and added the new Copilot Chat and Agent Starter Kit. This includes:

The rollout of Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is certainly an exciting development for both IT admins and users alike! This update promises to enhance the way we interact with AI in our daily tasks, making workflows more efficient and intuitive.
For admins, the introduction of secure, enterprise-ready AI chat powered by GPT-4o means they will have more control over data governance and management of agents. The ability to enable agents that access shared tenant data—albeit off by default—allows for tailored integrations while maintaining a high level of security. Plus, with the pay-as-you-go model for agent usage, admins can manage costs effectively while still leveraging the power of AI. It sounds like a win-win, right?
On the user side, the benefits are just as significant. With Copilot Chat, users can expect a more personalized experience, as they can engage with agents that utilize shared data and respond to specific organizational queries. This could mean less time searching for information and more time focusing on what truly matters—getting the job done! The accessibility of Copilot Chat through various platforms like Microsoft Teams and Outlook also ensures that users can stay connected and productive, no matter where they are.
As for the impact of these changes, it’s hard to overstate. The integration of AI into everyday tools can lead to increased productivity and a more streamlined approach to tasks. However, it also requires a bit of adjustment, particularly for admins who will need to familiarize themselves with the new controls and features. But hey, every change comes with its learning curve, right? Let’s embrace it with a positive attitude!
