Microsoft Teams: More predictable recording experience with Who keeps recording [MC985482]

Message ID: MC985482

We will be adding a new in-product message to display the recording owner’s information. This feature is especially important to our users when the person who starts the recording is different from the recording owner, participants will be able to reach out to the correct recording owner as needed.

[When this will happen:]

General availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out early March 2025 and expect to complete by late March 2025.

[How this will affect your organization:]

This feature provides an in-product message in the chat that displays the recording owner’s information, making it easier for participants to reach out to the correct recording owner when needed.

We understand the importance of governance and predictability in managing recordings, which is why we have rolled out Recordings saved to Organizers OneDrive in GCC, GCCH, and DOD. By default, the recording saves to the organizer’s OneDrive, even if the organizer did not attend the meeting or event. Co-organizers have the same editing permissions as organizers for recording files.

When the organizer doesn’t have a OneDrive account such as meetings scheduled using a shared mailbox, we will have a fallback logic to go through Organizer -> Co-organizer (s) -> Initiator -> Async Media Storage (AMS).

[What you need to do to prepare:]

Ensure -MeetingRecordingOwnership is set to MeetingOrganizer, which is the default value.

When the organizer doesn’t have a OneDrive account such as meetings scheduled using a shared mailbox, fallback logic is to automatically enable Organizer -> Co-organizer (s) -> Initiator -> Async Media Storage (AMS) to determine the recording owner. The Who keeps recording feature will help you identify the recording owner in any situation.

The upcoming update to Microsoft Teams, set to roll out in early March 2025, promises to enhance the recording experience for both admins and users alike. The introduction of a clear message indicating the recording owner’s information is a game-changer. It not only fosters transparency but also streamlines communication, allowing participants to easily reach out to the right person for any recording-related inquiries. After all, nobody wants to be that person who sends a message to the wrong recording owner—awkward!

For admins, this update underscores the importance of governance and predictability in managing recordings. With recordings now being saved directly to the organizer’s OneDrive, even if they weren’t present at the meeting, it simplifies the process of accessing and managing these files. The fallback logic ensures that there’s always a clear path to determine the recording owner, which can alleviate some of the administrative burden.

As for users, this change will likely lead to a more efficient and less confusing experience. No longer will they have to scramble to figure out who to contact if they need access to a recording. Instead, they can simply look for the in-product message, making the whole process feel more user-friendly.

Overall, the impact of these changes is expected to be quite significant. They enhance collaboration, improve accountability, and foster a sense of shared responsibility among team members. It’s like adding a GPS to your road trip—suddenly, you know exactly where you’re going and who’s in charge of the playlist!

I encourage everyone to share their thoughts on this update. How do you think it will affect your use of Teams? Will it ease your recording-related woes? Let’s hear your opinions! For more insights, check out additional posts on mwpro.co.uk.
