Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app: The “Record” feature will retire [MC993973]

Message ID: MC993973

We will retire the video Record feature from the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app for Android and iOS starting March 17, 2025, and ending March 31, 2025. Instead, we recommend using the device’s video recording feature.

After the retirement, users will no longer be able to record new videos from the Capture tab but will be able to view and access videos that they have already recorded and saved in their Microsoft OneDrive account or on their device.

The retirement of the “Record” feature from the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app is certainly a significant update that will impact both admins and users alike. For admins, this change means a bit of proactive communication is necessary. While no immediate action is required, informing users about the transition will help manage expectations and avoid confusion as the retirement date approaches. It’s a chance to update documentation, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and knows how to utilize their device’s built-in video recording capabilities.

For users, the impact is a mixed bag. On one hand, the loss of the in-app recording feature may feel like a step backward, especially for those who enjoyed the convenience of recording directly within the app. On the other hand, this change encourages users to explore and utilize the native video recording features of their devices, which often come with enhanced functionalities and better quality. Plus, they’ll still have access to their previously recorded videos in OneDrive, so it’s not all doom and gloom!

In terms of the overall impact, I’d say it’s a gentle nudge rather than a major upheaval. The change promotes a shift towards using device capabilities, which could lead to a more seamless experience in the long run. Just think of it as Microsoft giving us a little push to become more familiar with our devices—like a tech-savvy personal trainer, but without the sweat!
