Microsoft Purview: Classic eDiscovery experience will retire [MC1002399]

Message ID: MC1002399

We will be retiring the classic eDiscovery including classic Content Search, eDiscovery (Standard), and eDiscovery (Premium) from the Microsoft 365 Purview portal starting August 1, 2025, and ending September 1, 2025. Instead, we recommend the new unified eDiscovery, which is faster and easier to use, combining standard and premium features, in a simpler workflow with robust reporting. We will continue to invest our development resources in the new unified eDiscovery.

Classic eDiscovery experience (red box) will retire. We recommend the new unified eDiscovery (green box) experience:

The retirement of the classic eDiscovery experience from the Microsoft 365 Purview portal is set to bring about significant changes for both admins and users. As we approach the transition period starting August 1, 2025, it’s essential to assess the impact of these changes and how they might influence our daily workflows.

For admins, the shift to the new unified eDiscovery means less time spent managing multiple versions of eDiscovery tools. The streamlined interface and enhanced reporting capabilities will likely lead to greater efficiency. With no required action for admins to prepare for the transition, it’s a bit like getting a free upgrade on your morning coffee—no extra effort, just a better experience! However, admins should prepare to communicate these changes to users, ensuring everyone is on board with the new features and functionalities.

Users, on the other hand, can expect a more intuitive and faster eDiscovery experience. The new unified system combines the best of both worlds—standard and premium features—into a single, user-friendly platform. This should help reduce confusion and speed up the eDiscovery process, making it easier to locate and manage content. It’s a bit like finally finding that elusive sock that always disappears in the laundry; once you have it, everything feels complete!

Overall, the impact of these changes is likely to be positive. By simplifying workflows and enhancing capabilities, Microsoft is investing in a future where eDiscovery is not just a task, but a seamless part of our operations. It’s an exciting time to embrace these improvements!

I encourage everyone to share their thoughts on this transition. How do you feel about the changes? Will you miss the classic experience, or are you looking forward to the new unified eDiscovery?
