We are announcing the Agent Builder in Copilot Chat feature for Copilot Studio. This feature enables pay-as-you-go agents for the existing free chat experience for Microsoft 365 commercial users. This feature will reach general availability on February 18, 2025.
How does this affect me?
Copilot Chat users will be able to use the same Agent Builder experience available to Microsoft 365 Copilot users, allowing you to create and use your own agents.
- Users will be able to describe the purpose of their agent in natural language, including instructions such as tone that the agent should follow.
- Users will be able to configure the agent in the configure tab, providing inputs such as website grounding or including SharePoint files and connectors.
- Users will be able to test the agent within the test chat pane prior to publishing.
What action do I need to take?
This message is for awareness and no action is required.

The announcement of the Agent Builder in Copilot Chat is an exciting development for both admins and users alike! This new feature, set to reach general availability on February 18, 2025, opens up a world of possibilities for creating personalized chat agents.
For admins, this means more flexibility and control over how chat interactions are managed. The ability to craft agents that align with the organization’s tone and purpose can enhance user experience significantly. Plus, with the pay-as-you-go model, admins can better align costs with usage, making budgeting a bit more manageable. Who wouldn’t appreciate a little more predictability in their expenses?
Users, on the other hand, are in for a treat! The user-friendly interface allows for natural language input when describing the agent’s purpose. This means you don’t need to be a tech wizard to create an agent that suits your needs. With the option to test agents before going live, users can ensure that their creations are just right, minimizing the risk of any “surprise” interactions. After all, we wouldn’t want our chat agents to sound like they just woke up from a long nap!
The impacts of these changes could be quite significant. By empowering users to create tailored chat experiences, we can expect higher engagement and satisfaction levels. It’s like giving everyone their own personal assistant—who doesn’t want that?
I encourage everyone to share your thoughts on this update! How do you envision using the Agent Builder in your work? Let’s get the conversation going, and who knows, we might just brainstorm the next big idea together! For more insights, don’t forget to check out additional posts on mwpro.co.uk.
