The recent announcement regarding the retirement of the Sway feature from the “Create” tab in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app is certainly a significant change for both admins and users. As of March 24, 2025, users will need to shift their Sway activities to the Apps section of the app, which, while not a monumental change, does require some adjustment.
For admins, this transition means a bit of proactive communication is in order. It’s a good opportunity to remind users about the capabilities of Sway and encourage them to explore its features in the new location. While the retirement is due to low usage, it’s crucial to ensure that everyone is aware of where to find Sway moving forward. Updating documentation and notifying users can help smooth the transition and minimize confusion.
From the user perspective, this change might feel like a slight inconvenience at first, but it’s an opportunity to streamline the experience. Users will still have full access to their existing Sways and can create new ones seamlessly from the Apps section. Plus, they can take comfort in the fact that Sway is still supported and will continue to be a valuable tool for creating engaging presentations and stories.
As for the impact of these changes, they may not be earth-shattering, but they do reflect Microsoft’s commitment to optimizing user experiences by focusing on the most impactful applications. This shift could potentially lead to a more streamlined interface, allowing users to concentrate on the tools that matter most.
