Coming soon for Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat: To enhance the organization and discoverability of the user’s Copilot chat sessions, we will use a large language model (LLM) to generate titles for new chat sessions.
A Microsoft 365 license is required to use this feature.
This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 388373.
[When this will happen:]
General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out early March 2025 and expect to complete by late March 2025.
[How this will affect your organization:]
Before this rollout: The default title is the same as the first prompt.
After this rollout: After Copilot responds to the first prompt, titles will be generated by LMM for all new chat sessions. Users will still be able to delete session chats and rename their sessions.
Note: Titles generated before this rollout will not be changed.
Chat titles generated by LMM on the Copilot tab display in all products that include a Copilot tab: Microsoft 356/Office, Microsoft Teams, new Microsoft Outlook for desktop and web, and the Microsoft 365 for Windows desktop and web:
This feature will be enabled by default.
[What you need to do to prepare:]
If you prefer to disable Copilot Chat for your tenant, review these instructions in Manage Copilot | Microsoft Learn.
This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required before the rollout. Review your current configuration to determine the impact for your organization. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.

The upcoming update to Microsoft 365 Copilot, where large language models (LLMs) will generate titles for chat sessions, is set to be a game changer for both admins and users alike. Picture this: no more generic chat titles that leave you scratching your head about what was discussed! Instead, you’ll have smart, contextually relevant titles that enhance organization and make it easier to revisit previous conversations.
For users, this means a more streamlined experience. The LLM-generated titles will help in quickly identifying chat sessions, making it easier to pick up right where you left off. Plus, the ability to rename or delete sessions remains, so you still have control over your chat history. It’s like having a personal assistant who not only takes notes but also gives them catchy titles!
Admins, on the other hand, will appreciate the reduced clutter and improved discoverability of chats across Microsoft 365 products. The automatic rollout means there’s no need for any pre-emptive action; it’s all happening behind the scenes. However, it’s always good to keep your users informed about such changes to ensure a smooth transition. Don’t forget to check your current configurations and update any documentation as needed!
As we gear up for this rollout starting in early March 2025, it’s clear that the impact will be significant. Not only will it enhance productivity, but it will also add a sprinkle of fun to the otherwise mundane task of managing chat sessions. So, what are your thoughts on this update? Will you be embracing the new chat titles, or do you have concerns about the changes? Share your opinions and let’s get the conversation rolling!
