Microsoft Teams: Record video clips in channels [MC1020203]

Message ID: MC1020203

Coming soon: Users will be able to record video clips in Microsoft Teams channels, just like users can in Teams chat.

Users can record themselves, their screen, or audio-only clips and send them in a channel as a new post or a reply. Recording in channels respects the same Video messages policy as recording in chat. As an admin, if you have already enabled or disabled this policy for recording in chat, we will respect it for recording in channels too.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): Available now, since early 2025.

General Availability (GCC High, DoD): We will begin rolling out early March 2025 and expect to complete by mid-March 2025.

[How this will affect your organization:]

After this rollout, a new Record video clip option will appear in the compose box under the Actions and apps button for channel posts or channel replies. A similar button already exists in the chat experience.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required before the rollout. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.

The recent update allowing users to record video clips directly in Microsoft Teams channels is a game-changer for both admins and users. For users, this feature opens up a world of possibilities. Imagine being able to share quick updates, tutorials, or even a friendly hello without the need for lengthy emails or meetings. It’s like transforming your Teams channel into a mini TV studio, where everyone can be the star of their own show!

On the admin side, while there’s no additional action required to enable this feature, it does present a new opportunity to enhance communication within teams. By familiarizing users with the new “Record video clip” option, admins can encourage more dynamic and engaging interactions. Plus, as the same video messaging policy applies, admins can feel secure knowing their existing settings will carry over seamlessly.

As for the impact of these changes? Well, they’re sure to spice up the way teams collaborate. Picture this: instead of typing out a response that could be misinterpreted, a quick video clip can convey tone and context much more effectively. It’s like adding a sprinkle of humor to a serious meeting—sometimes, it’s just what’s needed to lighten the mood!

I encourage everyone to share their thoughts on how they plan to use this new feature. Will you be recording team updates, or perhaps sending out a fun greeting? Let’s hear your ideas! And for more insights and discussions, check out additional posts on mwpro.co.uk. Happy recording!
