Updates to pinning Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat (“Copilot Chat”) within Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app [MC1023482]

Message ID: MC1023482

Starting mid-March 2025, Copilot Chat will be automatically pinned in the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app for Copilot Chat-eligible users who newly install the app or are redirected to the previously installed app while trying to access Copilot from an external source. Copilot Chat will not be automatically pinned if the admin has blocked pinning for their users or blocked the Copilot Chat in the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app entirely.

Note:

  • There is no change for Microsoft 365 Copilot-licensed users – Copilot Chat is already pinned by default in the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app when users are assigned the license.
  • These updates apply to mobile scenarios only. Any additional updates to pinning Copilot Chat for other surfaces will be communicated via future Message center posts.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (WW Production): We will begin rolling out mid-March 2025 and expect to complete by mid-April 2025.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Copilot Chat-eligible users will have Copilot Chat automatically pinned in the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app in the following scenarios:

  • The Microsoft 365 Copilot app is newly installed
  • An eligible user is redirected to the previously installed Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app when:
    • Trying to sign into the Microsoft Copilot mobile app or Bing mobile app with their Entra account
    • (Android-only) Selecting “Ask Copilot” from the context menu after highlighting text in an app (for example, a mobile browser).

Scenarios outside those listed above will continue to prompt users to pin Copilot Chat in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app via a consent dialog.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

Copilot Chat-eligible users will have Copilot Chat automatically pinned in the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app in the above scenarios – no action is required.

To prevent Copilot Chat from being automatically pinned in the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app in the above scenarios, admins can use the Copilot Chat pinning control or manage Copilot Chat in the app using Intune.

The recent update regarding the automatic pinning of Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat in the mobile app is sure to stir up some interesting conversations among admins and users alike! Scheduled for rollout from mid-March 2025, this change promises to enhance accessibility for Copilot Chat-eligible users, making it easier than ever to engage with this powerful tool on mobile devices.

For admins, this update is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it streamlines the user experience, ensuring that eligible users have immediate access to Copilot Chat upon installing the app or being redirected from an external source. This could lead to increased productivity and a smoother onboarding process for new users. However, on the other hand, admins who prefer to maintain tighter control over app functionalities might find themselves scrambling to adjust settings if they wish to block this feature. The ability to manage pinning through the Copilot Chat pinning control or Intune will be crucial for those looking to tailor the app to their organization’s needs.

As for users, this update is likely to be received with open arms! Automatically having Copilot Chat pinned means less time fumbling around and more time leveraging the AI’s capabilities to enhance their work. It’s like having your favorite snack always within reach—no more digging through the pantry! However, it’s worth noting that scenarios outside the specified ones will still require users to manually pin Copilot Chat, so a little patience may still be necessary.

Overall, the impact of these changes is poised to be quite significant, especially for those who rely heavily on the mobile app for their daily tasks. It’s a win-win situation—admins can enjoy a more efficient user experience and users can access vital tools with ease.

What do you think about these changes? Will they simplify your workflow, or do you see potential hiccups? Share your thoughts and let’s get the conversation rolling! For more insights and updates, be sure to check out other posts on mwpro.co.uk.
