The recent announcement regarding the addition of the “average time spent per user” graph in Microsoft Viva Amplify reporting is certainly a game changer for both admins and users. This new feature, which tracks dwell time on publications, promises to offer valuable insights into user engagement. For admins, this means a more robust ability to analyze how well content is resonating with users, allowing for more informed decision-making when it comes to future campaigns.

On the user side, the introduction of this metric could encourage a more engaging experience. Users may feel more motivated to interact with the content if they know their engagement is being measured. It’s like knowing your reading habits are being tracked—suddenly, that article on the latest office coffee machine becomes a matter of pride!

The rollout is set to begin in mid-March 2025, and it will happen automatically, so no need for admins to panic or scramble at the last minute. However, a gentle reminder to users about this change could foster a sense of excitement and anticipation.

As for the impact of these changes, I foresee it being quite significant. Not only will it enhance the reporting capabilities for admins, but it also has the potential to elevate the overall user experience. After all, who doesn’t love a little data to back up their reading habits?

I encourage everyone to share their thoughts on this update. How do you think the dwell time metric will affect your engagement with the content?
