New messages rate for Prompts in Copilot Studio [MC1026022]

Message ID: MC1026022

Starting on April 7, 2025, Copilot Studio customers using Prompts will be charged based on messages, with specific charges reflecting the capability of the AI tools used as actions.

How does this affect me?
Prompts called directly in Topic and Actions will incur a consumption charge as it will now consume messages depending on the capability of the AI tools used. These charges for the use of Prompts will apply in addition to the existing Copilot Studio consumption rates. Prompts called through flows will continue to be charged as-is.

Users will be able to track and monitor the additional message consumption corresponding to new features in Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC):

  • Text & Gen AI tools (Basic)
  • Text & Gen AI tools (Standard)
  • Text & Gen AI tools (Premium) – in preview

What do I need to do to prepare? / What action do I need to take?
There is no direct action needed at this time to prepare for the release of this update. You will find the exact rate of your consumption in this documentation: Message scenarios. Customers will be able to continue to manage access preview models inside Power Platform Admin Center.

The recent update regarding the new message rates for Prompts in Copilot Studio is set to take effect on April 7, 2025, and it brings some interesting changes for both admins and users. Let’s break it down with a sprinkle of humor to keep things light!

For admins, this update means a shift in how costs are calculated. With the introduction of consumption charges based on the specific capabilities of the AI tools used, it will require a bit more attention to detail. Admins will need to keep a keen eye on the usage patterns and ensure that budgets are aligned with these new charges. Thankfully, the Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC) will provide an easy way to track the additional message consumption by categorizing it into Basic, Standard, and Premium tiers. So, while it may feel like a new math problem, at least there’s a clear solution at hand!

On the user side, while the update may initially sound daunting, there’s good news! Users can continue to utilize Prompts without any immediate action required on their part. The ability to monitor usage through the PPAC will empower users to understand their consumption better, allowing them to make informed decisions as they navigate the new landscape. Just think of it as a new fitness tracker for your AI usage—keeping you aware of how much you’re “working out” those prompts!

Overall, the impact of these changes will likely be significant, as they encourage both admins and users to engage more thoughtfully with the tools at their disposal. It’s a step towards a more transparent and manageable usage of AI resources, which is a win-win!
