(Updated) Microsoft Teams: Enhanced compliance in voicemail messages [MC1028317]

Message ID: MC1028317

We would like to inform you that the rollout of Request for Comments (RFC) compliance enforcement changes, originally announced in January 2025 (MC987329) have been postponed until May 2025.

With the compliance update in May 2025, the "From" field of voicemail email messages will be modified to meet the latest RFC standard. Specifically, RFC 6854: Update to Internet Message Format to Allow Group Syntax in the "From:" and "Sender:" Header Fields. According to this standard, the Internet message format must always include an address in the "From" header. For example:

  • Previously: +44 28 7584 5695 <442875845695>
  • After the change: +44 28 7584 5695 <no*****@sk***.com>

 [When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): We will begin rolling out early May 2025 and expect to complete by mid-June 2025.

General Availability (GCCH, DoD): We will begin rolling out mid-May 2025 and expect to complete by mid-June 2025.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Voicemails will be delivered from the email address no*****@sk***.com to meet the latest RFC standard.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

Please allowlist the following email address as soon as possible, and no later than May 2025: no*****@sk***.com. Starting from May 2025 Voicemails will be delivered from the address no*****@sk***.com.

If you would like to enable RFC compliance changes earlier than May 2025, please contact us by replying to this message post.

The recent update regarding Microsoft Teams and the enhanced compliance in voicemail messages is certainly a topic worth discussing! With the rollout now set for May 2025, it’s essential to unpack how these changes will impact both admins and users alike.

For admins, the most pressing task will be to ensure that the new email address, no*****@sk***.com, is allowlisted well ahead of the rollout. This proactive step will prevent any disruptions in voicemail delivery and keep communications running smoothly. It’s a straightforward task, but one that requires attention to detail—after all, we wouldn’t want important voicemails getting lost in the digital ether!

On the user side, the impact may initially seem minimal, but the switch to a standardized email format could improve overall clarity and organization in voicemail communications. Users will receive voicemails from a recognizable address, which can enhance both trust and professionalism. Plus, with the compliance update aligning with the latest RFC standards, it’s a step towards ensuring that our digital communications are as robust and reliable as possible.

As for how impactful these changes will be—consider this: while the adjustment may seem like a minor tweak, it reflects a significant commitment to compliance and user experience. In a world where digital communication is paramount, even small changes can have a ripple effect, leading to improved workflows and enhanced collaboration.

Now, let’s keep the conversation going! What are your thoughts on this update? Will you be making any preparations in advance? Share your insights in the comments below, and let’s see how this change will shape our Teams experience! For further reading, check out more posts on mwpro.co.uk.
