Starting in April 2025, we are introducing an automated process to delete inactive default environments.
How does this affect me?
- Default environments without premium licenses will be impacted by this process.
- Environments with M365 Agents or Planner activity will be out of scope.
- Admins will receive two notifications prior to the default environment being deleted for inactivity.
- Inactive default environments will be deleted after 30 days of inactivity.
- Any activity in the default environment within 30 days of the notifications will reset the inactivity period.
- When an inactive default environment is deleted, a new replacement default environment will be created without Dataverse, with an option to add Dataverse later.
- Deleted default environments may be recovered within 7 days.
What action do I need to take?
Please review your default environments last activity date in the Power platform admin center.

This upcoming update regarding the automatic deletion of inactive default environments in the Power Platform admin center is set to have a notable impact on both admins and users, and it’s worth diving into how these changes will play out.
For admins, the introduction of this automated process can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it alleviates the burden of managing inactive environments that often consume resources without yielding any benefits. This means less clutter and more efficient management of the platform. However, the responsibility is shifting slightly; admins will need to stay vigilant and ensure that they are actively monitoring the activity levels of their default environments. The two notifications before deletion will certainly help, but it’s still essential to keep an eye on things to avoid any unexpected surprises.
For users, the impact may feel a bit more direct. If you’ve been sitting back, enjoying the quiet of your default environment without much action, now might be the time to shake things up a bit! Don’t panic just yet—any activity within 30 days of receiving the notifications will reset the inactivity clock. So, whether it’s a quick project update or a fun experiment, your environment can be saved with just a little bit of engagement. Plus, the option to add Dataverse later to the new default environments means flexibility remains intact.
Overall, these changes seem poised to streamline operations within the Power Platform. The potential for increased efficiency is exciting, but it also calls for a proactive approach from both admins and users. So, what do you think? Are you ready to keep your environments lively, or do you see potential pitfalls lurking? Share your thoughts and experiences below—let’s get the conversation going!
