Microsoft 365 admin center: Allow usage for custom apps to show in the Developer Portal for Microsoft Teams [MC1058267]

Message ID: MC1058267

In the Microsoft 365 admin center, we will soon introduce a new organizational setting called App usage for custom apps to allow enterprise app developers to view and use app analytics for company apps in the Developer Portal for Microsoft Teams. The Developer Portal is a tool for managing apps and agents built for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 apps. By viewing custom app’s usage, enterprise developers can see the number of active users and get other insights. Admins can allow the app usage for your custom apps to be shown in the Developer Portal.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We began rolling out mid-April 2025 and expect to complete by late April 2025.

[How this will affect your organization:]

By default, the App usage for custom apps setting will be disabled after it rolls out. If you enable this setting, enterprise developers will be provided with better insights into the performance and user engagement of custom apps, helping them make informed decisions about app improvements. If this setting is disabled, developers may be prevented from understanding app usage and other insights, causing disruptive change to their workflow.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified dates with no admin action required before the rollout. Review your current configuration to assess the impact on your organization. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.

After the rollout, to enable enterprise developers to view app usage, please enable the App usage for custom apps setting in the Microsoft 365 admin center at Settings > Org settings > Services > Developer Portal for Teams.

The recent update to the Microsoft 365 admin center, introducing the “App usage for custom apps” setting, is set to stir things up for both admins and users alike—like a good cup of coffee on a Monday morning!

For admins, this change means a new tool in their toolkit. By allowing enterprise app developers to access app analytics in the Developer Portal for Microsoft Teams, admins can facilitate a more data-driven approach to app management. Imagine being able to see how many users are actively engaging with your custom apps! This insight can help developers fine-tune their apps, making them more user-friendly and effective. However, it’s worth noting that the setting will be disabled by default. So, admins will need to take a moment to enable it to reap these benefits—don’t worry, it’s as easy as pie (or at least a pie chart)!

On the user side, this update could lead to a more tailored experience as developers gain insights into app performance and engagement. With these analytics, users may find that their feedback leads to real improvements in the apps they rely on. Who doesn’t love when their suggestions are taken into account? It’s like getting an upgrade on your favorite app—suddenly, everything runs smoother and better!

In terms of impact, the changes are likely to be quite significant. A well-informed developer is a happy developer, and when developers are happy, users are happy. It’s a win-win! The ability to view app usage analytics can lead to enhancements that could potentially revolutionize how teams collaborate.

So, what do you think about this update? Will you be enabling the new setting, or are you already dreaming of the possibilities it brings? Share your thoughts and let’s get the conversation rolling! And for more insights and tips, don’t forget to check out other posts on mwpro.co.uk. Your feedback is always welcome!
