Microsoft Viva Engage: Selfie video recording is only supported in iOS/Android mobile apps [MC1065055]

Message ID: MC1065055

We made a change in the experience for Microsoft Viva Engage. We will only support recording selfie videos in the Viva Engage iOS/Android mobile apps and not in Viva Engage for the web.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We began rolling out mid-April 2025 and expect to complete by late April 2025.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Before this rollout, users were able to select Record a video in Viva Engage for the web:

After this rollout, the Record a video button will be removed from Viva Engage for the web:

After this rollout, users can record a selfie video with the Record a Video feature in the Viva Engage apps for iOS/Android:

This change is available by default for users to access.

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required before the rollout. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.

The recent update to Microsoft Viva Engage, which restricts selfie video recording to mobile apps only, is certainly a significant shift for both admins and users. On one hand, users may feel a bit of a pinch as the familiar “Record a video” button will be disappearing from the web interface, which may have been their go-to for quick video messages or updates. This change encourages a more mobile-centric approach, which could be advantageous for those who enjoy recording on the go. After all, who doesn’t love a good selfie moment?

For admins, the transition requires minimal effort since no action is needed on their part for the rollout. However, it would be wise to proactively communicate this change to users, ensuring everyone is on the same page and prepared for the update. This could be a great opportunity for admins to refresh any documentation and perhaps even host a little Q
