We are announcing the ability to configure Entra hybrid join for hosted machine groups in Power Automate. This feature will reach general availability on May 31, 2025.
How does this affect me?
This feature allows your hosted machine group bots to enroll in both your on-premises Active Directory (AD) and Microsoft Entra ID. This enables automation in scenarios that require authentication using an AD account, or when devices need to be managed using Group Policy (GPO). It provides support for joining hosted machine group bots to both on-premises AD and Microsoft Entra ID when using custom virtual networks (VNETs).
- A custom VNET is configured using Azure Virtual Network.
- Access to the domain controller is required from the custom VNET.
- A custom VNET allows you to access on-premises resources when running your automation.
- Microsoft Entra hybrid join is configured as part of Power Automate network connection setup.
What do I need to do to prepare?

The recent announcement regarding the ability to configure Entra hybrid join for hosted machine groups in Power Automate is set to make waves for both admins and users alike. Scheduled for general availability on May 31, 2025, this feature introduces a new level of flexibility and efficiency in managing automation scenarios that require authentication through Active Directory.
For admins, this update means a significant enhancement in how hosted machine group bots can operate. By enabling these bots to enroll in both on-premises Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, admins can streamline their workflows. This dual enrollment allows for smoother integration into existing infrastructure and ensures that devices can be efficiently managed using Group Policy (GPO). Plus, the ability to connect through custom virtual networks (VNETs) opens up pathways to on-premises resources, making life just a bit easier for IT teams. After all, less time troubleshooting means more time for coffee breaks, right?
Users will also feel the positive impact of this change. With hosted machine groups able to utilize both authentication methods, users can expect a more seamless experience when engaging with automated processes. Imagine fewer log-in issues and more reliable access to necessary resources – sounds like a win-win!
In terms of overall impact, this update is poised to enhance operational efficiency significantly. By bridging the gap between on-premises and cloud environments, organizations can leverage their existing setups while embracing modern automation tools. It’s like having the best of both worlds!
