Message ID: MC1066935

We are updating the Places Core service plan to better reflect its current status.

Effective April 30th, 2025, you will no longer see Places Core service plan. This service plan will be renamed to RETIRED-Places Core.

[How this will affect your organization:]

This update DOES NOT impact your organization or users that are using Places currently. Customers with a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription have access to Places core features, which include setting up and updating work plans, viewing collaborators’ work plans, accessing the Places card experiences in calendar, scheduling in-person meetings, managing hybrid RSVP, and workplace presence related capabilities.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

This is for your information and, you will not need to do anything.

The recent update to the Places Core service plan is more of a gentle nudge than a dramatic upheaval. Starting April 30th, 2025, the Places Core service plan will officially be renamed to RETIRED-Places Core. But fear not, dear admins and users! This change is not expected to disrupt your daily operations, but rather to provide a clearer picture of the service’s status.

For admins, this update simplifies the landscape a bit. With no immediate action required, you can breathe a sigh of relief and focus on the important things—like perfecting your coffee-making skills for those long meetings! The core features you currently enjoy, such as setting up work plans and managing hybrid RSVPs, will remain intact for those with a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription. So, consider this update a friendly reminder that everything is still running smoothly.

Users, on the other hand, can continue to enjoy the seamless experience they’ve come to expect from Places. You won’t need to change how you access or utilize the service, which means you can keep scheduling those in-person meetings without a hitch. It’s business as usual, with perhaps a little less confusion about the name!

In terms of impact, the changes seem minimal at first glance but can lead to better clarity and understanding of the service in the long run. As we all know, a clear label can save us from unnecessary questions—like, “What does ‘RETIRED’ really mean?” Spoiler alert: it’s just a name change!

So, what do you think about these updates? Will they change how you use Places, or are they just a minor footnote in your daily routine? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
