Microsoft SharePoint: Updated Page Analytics [MC1069561]

Message ID: MC1069561

Microsoft SharePoint Page Analytics will soon be upgraded with new capabilities. This rollout will be targeted to SharePoint News posts only. All these capabilities will be made available to all SharePoint pages in future releases.

If you have a license for Microsoft Viva Suite or Microsoft Viva Employee Communications and Communities, you will have all the new capabilities. If you do not have one of these licenses, you will continue to see the existing metrics and charts in Page Analytics with a modern page design.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 488502.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out late May 2025 and expect to complete by late June 2025.

[How this will affect your organization:]

This rollout will provide these new capabilities:

  • Long-term data: Up to 365 days from current limit of up to 90 days.
  • Breakdown by distribution channels: For all Page Analytics charts (including Unique viewers, Total views, and Average time spent per user), you will be able to see the breakdown by distribution channels (Microsoft Outlook, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Viva Engage) where a news post was shared.
  • Two new metrics called Reactions and Promotions. Reactions will indicate how many times have users reacted to a post and a breakdown of reactions by positive, negative, and others to gauge user sentiment for a post. Promotions will indicate the total number of shares, @mentions, and email forwards that a news post has received.
  • Export analytics data: You will be able to export the analytics data to Excel or PowerPoint.
  • Audience calculation: Unique viewers as a percentage of number of users to which the post was shared.
  • Copy a chart as image
  • Upgraded page design

This change will be on by default.

The upcoming update to Microsoft SharePoint’s Page Analytics is set to bring some exciting changes for both admins and users alike. With new capabilities targeted initially at SharePoint News posts, this rollout is not just an upgrade; it’s a game changer!

For admins, the extended data retention—up to 365 days—means more robust insights into user engagement over time. Imagine being able to track how your content performs not just over a few months, but for an entire year! This will help in making informed decisions on content strategy and engagement tactics. The breakdown by distribution channels will also give admins a clearer picture of where their content is thriving, whether it’s on Teams, Outlook, or Viva Engage. Now that’s what I call a multi-channel marketing dream!

Users, on the other hand, will benefit from the new metrics like Reactions and Promotions. These features will allow them to gauge how their posts resonate with the audience. Who wouldn’t want to know if their latest cat video or corporate announcement received more smiles than frowns? The ability to export data to Excel or PowerPoint is another sweet treat, making reporting and presentations a breeze. And let’s not forget the upgraded page design—because who doesn’t love a little aesthetic upgrade?

Overall, these changes are poised to have a significant impact on how SharePoint is used within organizations. The combination of long-term data tracking, enhanced metrics, and user-friendly features will empower both admins and users to create, share, and analyze content more effectively.

I’d love to hear what others think about these updates! Will they make your work easier, or are there features you’re particularly excited about? Share your thoughts in the comments below! For more insights and discussions on Microsoft updates, check out additional posts on mwpro.co.uk.
