The Adobe-powered PDF viewer in Microsoft Edge for Business is now available in beta for organizations to test. Organizations can now experience the viewer by default in Edge Beta (starting in version 136) and validate how it works within their PDF workflows. This early testing period helps identify and address any issues before the viewer becomes the default in Edge Stable release in October 2025. We will retire the legacy PDF viewer in early 2026.
This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 489231.
[When this will happen:]
- The Adobe-powered PDF viewer is now available in beta to test.
- General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out mid-October 2025 and expect to complete by late October 2025.

Before this rollout, organizations have to manually configure a policy to test the new PDF viewer.

Key enhancements include:
- Performance: Faster document load and smoother scrolling
- Accessibility: Improved support for screen readers and form accessibility
- Compatibility: Enhanced color profile support, more precise text selection, and fonts for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages
Exclusive features for organizations:
- View XFA PDFs using IE (Internet Explorer) mode
- Extended support for viewing Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) Protected PDF Files to different sovereignties
- View sensitivity labels for MIP-protected PDFs

It’s exciting to see the new Adobe-powered PDF viewer rolling out in Microsoft Edge for Business! This update promises to significantly enhance the user experience while also streamlining processes for admins.
For admins, the transition to this new viewer means less manual configuration. Initially, organizations will need to set up a policy to test the viewer, but once it’s rolled out in October 2025, it will be enabled by default in Edge Beta. This should lead to fewer headaches and more time to focus on other important tasks. Plus, the exclusive features like XFA PDF viewing and enhanced digital signature verification will be a game-changer for many organizations.
Users, on the other hand, can look forward to a smoother PDF experience with faster load times, improved accessibility features, and better compatibility with various document formats. The enhancements in text selection and support for multiple languages will surely make reading and interacting with PDFs much more enjoyable. It’s like upgrading from a bicycle to a sports car—same destination, but a much more exhilarating ride!
As we gear up for this change, I encourage everyone to test the new viewer in Edge Beta and share your experiences. Your feedback will be invaluable in shaping the final product!
