Starting on June 25, 2025, AI Tools and AI Builder prompts using the default model (currently 4o mini) will use 4.1 mini in all commercial environments.
How does this affect me?
From a licensing perspective, there will be no change. The price of credit and messages will be exactly the same once 4.1 mini reaches general availability. 4.1 mini responses will have higher quality and reliability compared to those generated by 4o mini and will allow you to manage images and document input, which was not possible with 4o mini.
Please note that, depending on your prompt, you may experience 4.1 mini reacting differently to your instructions. As such, results may differ from what you experienced with 4o mini. Additionally, prompts used in US Government environments won’t be impacted.
All new and existing prompts currently based on 4o mini will begin running on 4.1 mini starting on June 25, 2025. This date may vary depending on the region of your environment. US-based environments will receive this update starting on June 30, 2025. Once this rollout is completed in your region, all prompts previously using 4o mini will use 4.1 mini.
Additionally, the 4o mini entry in the model selector in Prompt Builder will be replaced by a 4.1 mini entry between July 1, 2025, and July 8, 2025.
What do I need to do to prepare?
You can test your prompts on other models (such as 4o or 4.1) by selecting these models in the Prompt Builder model selector.
