Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows touch boards: Browser support with Microsoft Edge [MC1140179]

Message ID: MC1140179

Introduction

Teams Rooms on Windows touch boards now support Microsoft Edge in private browsing mode. This feature enables users to securely access websites and line-of-business web apps both during and outside of Teams meetings. IT admins can manage browser settings to ensure a safe and controlled experience.

This feature is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 494148.

When this will happen

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): We will begin rolling out in late September 2025 and expect to complete by mid-October 2025.

General Availability (GCC High, DoD): We will begin rolling out in early October 2025 and expect to complete by late October 2025.

How this affects your organization

This feature is off by default and requires a Teams Rooms Pro license. It is available on certified Teams Rooms on Windows touch board devices, including Surface Hub 2S (in Teams Rooms mode), Surface Hub 3, MaxHub XBoard, and Yealink Meeting Board.

Once enabled, users and admins will see the following changes:

  • Outside of meetings
    • The Microsoft Edge icon appears on the home screen.
    • Tapping the icon launches Edge in Kiosk mode with private browsing.
    • Users can end the session at any time, which closes the browser and clears session data.
    • Sessions auto-close after 10 minutes of inactivity (default setting).
  • During meetings
    • Users can share the Edge browser via the Universal Bar Share tray.
    • Shared content is outlined in red; audio is not shared by default.
    • Users can enable audio via the “Share sound” toggle from the share tray when selecting Edge.
    • A mini meeting gallery pop-up displayed at the top of the Edge browser allows monitoring of meeting activity.
    • Sharing can be stopped anytime, and Edge remains usable locally.
    • Edge does not access the room’s camera or microphone.
  • Admin controls
    • Admins can enable or disable the feature via the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal.
    • They can also adjust the inactivity timeout duration (default: 10 minutes), which automatically closes the Edge browser session after the defined period of inactivity.
    • Default start page(s) for Edge can be configured.
    • XML setting: <EdgeBrowserEnabled>true</EdgeBrowserEnabled>
