Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) for SQL Server now supports resource governor, a Microsoft SQL Server feature that enables customers to optimize database performance by managing how different workloads consume compute resources. Customers can use resource governor on RDS for SQL Server Enterprise Edition database instances to prevent resource-intensive queries from impacting critical workloads, implement predictable performance in multi-tenant environments, and efficiently manage resource allocation during peak usage periods.
RDS for SQL Server provides stored procedures that allow customers to implement resource governor configurations such as resource pools, workload groups, and classifier functions. Using these features, customers can allocate and control CPU, memory, and I/O resources for different database workloads within a single RDS for SQL Server instance. For more information about configuring and using resource governor, refer to the Amazon RDS for SQL Server User Guide. Resource governor is available with SQL Server Enterprise Edition in all AWS Regions where Amazon RDS for SQL Server is available.
