Our team has made an update to the behavior of email notifications in Project for the web. When a project or roadmap is shared with a Microsoft 365 group, only if the group has 50 or less members will an email notification be sent to each member of the group notifying them a plan or roadmap has been shared with them.
If the group has more than 50 members then group members will not receive an email notification when a project or roadmap is shared with the group.
Individual notification settings will continue to be respected when these emails are sent.
[When this will happen:]
General Availability: We will begin rolling out mid-November 2024 and expect to complete by late November 2024.
[How this will affect your organization:]
For users of Project for the web if a project or roadmap is shared with a group has 50 or less members in it, an email notification is sent to each member informing them the project or roadmap was shared with them. For groups with more than 50 members, an email is not sent when a project or roadmap is shared with the group.
[What you need to do to prepare:]
Update any business documentation or processes which will be impacted by this change.

Alright folks, gather ’round because we’ve got some news that’s going to make your inbox breathe a sigh of relief! Our latest update to Project for the web is here to save the day—or at least save you from a flood of email notifications.
Here’s the scoop: if you’re part of a Microsoft 365 group with 50 or fewer members, you’ll still get those handy email notifications when a project or roadmap is shared with you. But if your group is a bit more on the popular side with more than 50 members, you won’t be getting an email notification. That’s right, no more inbox overload just because someone decided to share their grand project plans with the entire company!
Now, before you start worrying about missing out on crucial updates, remember that individual notification settings will still be respected. So, if you’ve got your notifications set just the way you like them, you’re good to go.
This change is rolling out in mid-November 2024 and should be wrapped up by the end of the month. So, mark your calendars and get ready for a more streamlined notification experience.
Admins, this is your cue to update any business documentation or processes that might be affected by this change. Think of it as a little fall cleaning for your procedures.
