We are announcing the Summarize records with Copilot feature for Dynamics 365 Field Service. This feature provides technicians with a quick summary of their work orders, outlining key details and other contextual information. This feature will reach general availability on December 16, 2024.
How does this affect me?
When you generate a summary with Copilot, the system uses the work order ID and your security profile to determine which relevant data to display by pulling contextual information directly from the work order and related records to generate the summary.
By default, Copilot provides summaries based on a list of fields that Microsoft maintains. Administrators can change the summary configuration to meet their business needs.
The default summary includes the following data fields from work orders and related records:
- Booking information
- Activity details
- Notes from the work order and bookings
- Work order product details
- Work order service details
- Work order service tasks
- Asset information and work order history
What do I need to do to prepare?
This message is for awareness and no action is required.

The announcement of the “Summarize records with Copilot” feature for Dynamics 365 Field Service is indeed an exciting development that promises to enhance both the efficiency of admins and the experience for users. With this update set to roll out on December 16, 2024, it’s time to explore how it will impact everyone involved.
For technicians, the ability to generate quick summaries of work orders means less time sifting through data and more time focusing on the task at hand. Imagine being able to glance at a concise summary that highlights key details, rather than wading through pages of information. It’s like having a personal assistant who knows exactly what you need—without the coffee runs!
Admins, on the other hand, will appreciate the flexibility to tailor these summaries to fit their specific business needs. The default configuration provides a solid foundation, but the option to customize ensures that admins can adapt the summaries to include the most relevant information for their teams. It’s a win-win scenario that allows for both standardization and personalization.
As for the overall impact, this feature is likely to streamline workflows significantly. By providing technicians with immediate access to crucial information, we can expect not only improved productivity but also higher job satisfaction. After all, who wouldn’t enjoy a little less paperwork and a little more time to shine in the field?
