Microsoft Search: The old Search usage reports will retire [MC976821]

Message ID: MC976821

Effective April 1, 2025, the New usage insights toggle on the Insights tab of the Microsoft 365 Search and Intelligence admin portal will be retired, making old search usage reports inaccessible. The new usage reports have improved consistency and are more efficient to maintain.

[How this will affect your organization:]

The retirement will not affect existing default reports in the Search and Intelligence portal. There are some differences between the new and old reports, including changes in metrics (such as the new reports have no query count or average position) and improvements to the user experience. For consistency, you cannot switch back to the old reports, and we will not address the disparities of the old reports at this time.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

You will have access to view old reports until March 31, 2025. We encourage you to download any necessary old reports by this date for your records. Also, we invite you to explore our new search usage reports available in the Insights tab and provide your feedback using the feedback icon in the Search and Intelligence portal.

The upcoming retirement of the old search usage reports in Microsoft Search, effective April 1, 2025, is set to bring about some significant changes for both admins and users. While change can sometimes feel like a bitter pill to swallow, this transition appears to be more of a refreshing mint than a hard-to-swallow capsule!

For admins, the new usage reports promise improved consistency and are designed to be more efficient to maintain. This means less time wrestling with outdated metrics and more time focusing on actionable insights that can drive organizational improvement. However, the shift does come with some caveats. The absence of certain metrics like query count and average position in the new reports might leave some admins feeling like a kid who just found out their favorite toy has been discontinued. Yet, the overall user experience is expected to be enhanced, which is a win for everyone involved!

On the user side, while the retirement of the old reports might seem daunting, it’s worth noting that existing default reports will remain unaffected. This means that users can still access key insights without disruption. The new reports are designed to streamline the process, allowing users to gather insights more effectively, albeit with some adjustments to the metrics they’re accustomed to.

Overall, the impact of these changes seems to lean towards the positive side of the spectrum. By embracing the new and improved reports, both admins and users can look forward to a more cohesive and user-friendly experience. It’s a step towards modernization that many are likely to appreciate in the long run.

As we gear up for this transition, I encourage everyone to share their thoughts and experiences in the comments. How do you feel about the changes? Are you excited, apprehensive, or somewhere in between? Let’s keep the conversation going!
